A week in Budapest, Hungary. That's in east Europe with boarders to countries like Austria, Slovakia and Romania. Day one: rickety old street tram from soviet union days.
I learned that the city was almost completly destroyed during WWII. Here is the palace, one of the few places not totally demolished.
They did a good job restoring the city. Here is the Church of St. Mattress. I was never really a great follower for the Catholic church.
The old Opera House behind me. The entire week was cold wet and foggy.
Some Budapest streets have a nice romantic vibe.
A Hungarian economy car. It's a Euro thing.
OK, now for the fun stuff. Nazi war museum. They are serious about guarding the information board.
I did not know that Hungary was a Nazi state during WWII. Here, an existing war bunker at the famous Citadel is used as the museum.
The Hungarian army was allies with Germany in WWII. Although not the entire country was in favour of this.
An outside view from part of the bunker at the Citadel. Notice the bullet holes. Budapest has a rich war history dating back to the Celtics and Roman era.
